Country Lovers vs. The specie Cadillac====================================Both of the 2 stories, Country Lovers and The Gold Cadillac reveal racial discrimination. It is not a particularly hidden message. But the two of themapproach it from slightly different angles. Country Lovers shows thatthe story is based roughly racism in the first paragraph the desolatechildren are beginning to prognosticate their old playmates missus and baasie- footling master. Within the Gold Cadillac, the racism is a littlebetter concealed. We dont know that the main family are black forsure, until line 166, after Wilbert (the father) has said he is goingto go knock down to Mississippi and Mr. Pondexter say Not much those folkshate moren to put through a northern Negro coming down there in a fine car.We are however given little hints, such as Lois speech and the verylarge, spread out family.It is when we scrape up out that the family in The Gold Cadillac is blackthat we find that the story is nig h racism.
